How Often Should You Mow Your Lawn in the Blue Mountains?

A simple mowing schedule for Blue Mountains lawns, season by season.

Growth changes with the seasons

Grass grows fastest in spring and summer and slows through autumn and winter. In the cooler, higher towns such as Katoomba and Blackheath, growth starts later in spring and slows earlier in autumn than in the lower towns near Springwood and Glenbrook.

A simple schedule

Most home lawns suit a cut every two weeks in the growing season and about every four weeks when growth slows. Large paddocks are often cut monthly or as needed.

Don't cut too much at once

As a rule, avoid removing more than about a third of the leaf height in one cut. Letting grass get long and then cutting it very short can stress the lawn and leave clumps of clippings.
